My passion is to help people learn about safe tanning. I got my first tattoo when I was fifteen. A flat or poorly inflated tire not only makes your car consume more fuel, but it is also a health risk as it can burst as you drive.

Here's a better perspective on how we can deal with this inevitable feeling and why it could help us grow. What a scary meaning for such a small word. Loss comes in all shapes and sizes. Just like us.

Just like human beings. A loss sends us into a spiral. An uncontrollable, spirling feeling you feel coming up your throat. Oftentimes, when we experience loss, we beg for the "one mores". One more hug, please. Can I have one more kiss? Just one more laugh we can share? We wish for these experiences to just happen once more as if that would ever be enough.

The reality is that even if we were privileged with one more, we would want another. And another. We'd never be satisfied. We'd eventually just wish for eternity.

Loss is necessary. Loss is natural. Loss is inevitable. Loss was never defined as easy. In fact, it has to be hard. It has to be hard for us to remember. To remember those warm embraces, to remember the feeling of their lips on yours, and to remember the smile on their face when you said something funny.

But why are we so afraid of loss after all? Tanning every day may seem to help zap pesky zits, but you shouldn't skip the sunscreen and head outside for a sunny DIY facial. As dermatologist Ava Shamban told InStyle , while UV rays may seem to clear some acne breakouts, the rays do more harm than good for your skin. Acnes, the main bacteria that contributes to acne, but they also injure the skin, causing brown spots, wrinkles, and sagging," Shamban explained.

Sometimes, a tan may give the desired appearance of clearer skin — however, the reality could be that your darker skin is actually just camouflaging your breakouts and blemishes. Elizabeth Tanzi told InStyle. Doris Day, the sun could actually dry out your skin and create more oil, leading to even more zits via Cosmopolitan. So, it's probably just better to stay on the safe and sunless side and skip out on sun bathing if you're chasing after a clear complexion.

Unfortunately, tanning every day won't make your stretch marks from pregnancy or other types of weight gain disappear. In fact, constant tanning could have quite the opposite effect on those stretch marks you're looking to get rid of for good. According to the American Academy of Dermatology Association , tanning too often will actually make the unwanted marks more visible, as stretch marks don't tan. If you're seeking to hide those pesky stretch marks, the association recommends using self-tanners , as these products will actually work to hide the scars temporarily.

So, why doesn't the sun have the same effect on stretch marks as it does on the rest of your skin? Well, according to Everyday Health , stretch marks are essentially scar tissue — meaning they don't respond to the sun like other areas of your skin do.

Harold Lancer told StyleCaster. He continued, explaining, "Stretch-mark-damaged skin has an unreliable skin-repair mechanism, so chances are they will not tan to the same color as the rest of the skin. If you spend hours tanning every day in the sun, you're probably well-acquainted with a little something called dandruff.

However, if you're seeing those pesky white flakes often, perhaps you should consider them a sign that you're getting too much sun. Just as too much tanning stresses out your skin, the sun can also negatively impact your scalp. And, if you frequent tanning beds or spend days getting hot and sweaty on the beach, you're likely causing your scalp to develop a moist environment in which dandruff will undoubtedly thrive and annoy you to no end with its itchy flakes.

Of course, sunburn is an ever-present risk for frequent tanners. According to Van Scoy Hair Clinics , even if you have a healthy head of hair, your scalp can get sunburned, too — possibly causing major damage to your hair follicles.

As noted by Healthline , massaging sunscreen into your scalp prior to sun exposure is a good sun-safety habit to develop, as is wearing a protective hat or cap to avoid unnecessary sun damage to your sensitive scalp. If tanning every day under the hot sun makes you feel better, you're not alone. According to Time , studies have linked high levels of serotonin a feel-good chemical with an abundance of sun exposure.

There's even research to suggest that UV light from tanning beds may "trigger feelings of euphoria," while also prompting the melanocytes that produce the dark pigment on your skin "to release endorphins. According to Science Daily , a study done by Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center concluded that frequent tanners reportedly experienced psychological benefits from tanning. He continued, saying, "We believe these relaxing and reinforcing effects contribute to tanning behavior and may help explain why people choose to tan despite the risks.

Unfortunately, endorphins can't be accurately measured; however, Feldman noted that the study's findings "suggest a course for future research into why people use tanning beds and the mechanism of mood changes associated with tanning. If you go tanning every day, you probably know that a base tan won't protect you from getting sunburned. The color is another way to tell how dark you will get instead of simply looking at the number before the bronzer. This lotion is an intensifier. Bronzers and intensifiers are supposed to do the same thing but in different ways.

Bronzers have pigments in them to help you look dark while you're getting a tan. These are great if you want to hurry up and wear shorts without white legs : Intensifiers are supposed to help your skin produce more melanin so that you get a deeper, more natural-looking tan. I'm on the fence with that. I tried this product for an extended period of time, and did not see a difference. I still love the product, but I use it for my face now. I have sensitive skin so I was a bit skeptical about spending this much on a lotion, but it was worth it.

Shea You Love Me is very moisturizing, hypoallergenic, and fragrance-free. Tanning can cause dry skin, and I don't want my face to get any darker it's already in the sun so much, and I want my whole body to match so this is the perfect lotion for my face. I only use about the size of a pea for my face, and this one bottle has lasted me months!

Drugs, supplements, and natural remedies may have dangerous side effects. If pregnant or nursing, consult with a qualified provider on an individual basis. Seek immediate help if you are experiencing a medical emergency. I was scared the first time I went tanning. After watching Final Destination, I triple check to make sure it didn't lock when I closed the lid. It doesn't, and most tanning beds have a stop button in case you want to finish early.

If you live near a tanning salon that will let you go tanning without purchasing a membership, just try it one afternoon. You'll fall in love. I have to agree with that it is important to explain the risks.

Tanning salons downplay the risks, and teenagers don't even consider them. I have to disagree with banning tanning beds all together, but I do think that they should be stricter with age limits. I enjoy the benefits without going overboard. You will never see me with very dark skin, but it's nice to feel refreshed during the winter, be free of acne and not have to deal with eczema. Thank you for your opinion though, I have to agree with you halfway.

Good Morning Amber I really enjoyed this hub, you covered the topic so well and answered so many imperative questions for anyone who is interested and wants to be informed about the tanning bed experience. Really nice meeting you. I look forward to following you reading more of your exceptional writing. I liked the fact that you posted the cons of indoor tanning as well. Many people who explain about indoor tanning leave out the risks. Personally I prefer light skin on myself - hence I usually stay away from the sun.

But to each his own. Personally I would not recommend indoor tanning even for the people who are obsessed with having dark skin. The cons, or the risks, as I see them, are greater than the pros - and as a person who values health, I would even recommend to ban tanning beds and make them illegal. Though so are my thoughts, I did enjoy reading your article. I am glad I stay in a tropical country and we have no need of such appliances.

It shouldn't. I use different lotions on my legs and it's never left an obvious line. If anything, it should balance the color out. Call around to local tanning salons and ask if they have any bigger beds. I've been in some level three beds that are bigger and have an extra set of lights down one side. You can also stick with the stand ups and up your time or go with different lotion. The more color the lotion has, the more color it will give you- remember that. Good luck! I'm curious about tanning lotion.

I was wanting to just put it on my legs, as my legs tend to take a little longer to gain color. Will this create a nasty tan line from the bronzers? If you don't burn easily, you can go every day and get some color to your skin. If it's gets too close, and you're not at the color you want to be, I'd recommend going with a spray tan to get the color you want.

The difference in beds in technically the UV rays, but what it boils down to is the color and how long it lasts. A lower level will give you color quicker, but it will also fade away quicker. A higher level will give you color slower, but it will result in a deeper tan that will last longer.

Mix it up, going in a lower level one day and a higher level the next day. Just rotate. Think of the hot dogs you see that are on a warmer. Most of the time, they are on a metal rack that rotates them so they don't burn and stay warm evenly. It's the same thing. The pale sides are happening because there are more than likely not tanning bulbs on the sides of the bed you're using. Instead of laying on your back or stomach when you tan, lay on your side the next time with your arms extended above your head.

If your tanning salon has a stand up bed, that would be a wonderful idea too! I am going on vacation in a week to a week in a half. I have very white skin and dark hair. What would you recommend? What is the difference really between a level 2 and a level I want to be darker by the time vca rolls around. Thank you. I go tanning like once a week and I tan well but my sides are still pale and the outer sides of my legs.

Everyone is different, just like every case of psoriasis is different. I go 15 minutes three times a week and it helps with mine. BUT it also depends on how bad your psoriasis is. You may need to go more, or you may be able to go less.
